Chatham Food Hub

October 19, 2020

The Chatham food hub aims to establish a food hub in rural Western Chatham County to serve as a central location for farmers, restaurants, and other food vendors to sell their products directly to consumers. This type of food hub and distribution model allows consumers to order food from multiple vendors and retrieve their items from a single, convenient location – supporting local vendors, and local community. The food hub will implement elements of a takeout restaurant, a farmers’ market, and a school lunch program, all in one location with substantial COVID-19 protections for the safety of all.

October 14, 2020 was the final Food Hub distribution day.

Here’s what the Chatham Food Hub achieved together over the Hub’s eleven weeks of operation:

  • Generated $7,995.86 in revenues for local restaurants and farms
  • Paid over $7,000.00 in wages to Chatham County residents
  • Donated 862 servings of prepared food to hungry Chatham County residents via the following local partners:
    • Chatham County Health Department
    • Chatham Housing Initiatives
    • Communities in Schools of Chatham County
    • Salvation Army of Chatham County
  • Distributed 220 CORA boxes to 100 unique individuals
  • Distributed about 300 free cloth face coverings to Hub customers
  • Hosted the Chatham Health Alliance Resource Hub team five times to provide COVID testing information, personal protective equipment, medication disposal kits and lockboxes, school supplies, and other free resources to Hub customers
